MR. BIGHORN

This is my 8th year teaching at the best middle school on the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation.  My first year I ran the ALC, Alternative Learning Center, and have been teaching 5th grade for the last 7 years.
My parents are Leonard Crowbelt, and Amanda Cloud Littlehead Bighorn. I have two brothers, my older brother, Les, is a Game Warden for the Ft. Peck Tribes, he takes care of our wildlife here on the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation. My little brother, Arnie, is the Director of the Tribes Water Resources Department. He takes care of our water resources. My Sister Vonda, is the Secretary for Poplar High School.  I’m an enrolled member of the Ft. Peck Tribes, I'm 13/16 Sioux blood. Mdewakan Hunkpapa, Yanktonia, Sisstonion, Santee. I grew up along the banks of the mighty Missouri River, and graduated from Poplar High School in 1981. I have three children, Loren Jr. 36 and Allison, and their kids, Haydn, Madison Rose and her son Amari, Naashon, Wesley, and Nat Lee. Benjamin 31, and Eva, and their kids, Benjamin Jr. Keoni, Kyrie, and Amanda. Evangeline Angel 20, and T.J. Tuttle, and their two children, Jax, and Tatum.
I received my Indian name in 1975 at the Badland Indian Celebration. My Grandmother Evangeline Cloud Littlehead, Indian name, "Unci Isanti Etanhan" Comes from Santee, Nebraska, was born in 1905. My Grandpa, Benjamin Littlehead, An Army Veteran Sioux Code Talker. Born in 1899, Indian name " Insnana Akicita" Lone Soldier,  gave me the name, Makaicu Hokeshina, which translates as "By the River Boy. Leland Spotted Bird was the person who led this very special ceremony.  Education is extremely important to my family. I’m honored to be part of a TEAM that is entrusted to provide a quality education to our young children here on the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation. I treat every one of my students like I treat my Grandchildren, “they could do no wrong in my eyes”.
